Derek Proops

Derek Proops was born in Dudley in 1961, the second of three boys, in a household where problems were identified, addressed, and moved on from. He considers this an excellent foundation for the work he now does.
Derek spent twenty two years in insurance, rising to the position of Regional Claims Manager for the West Midlands, a role that gave him, in his own words, "a thorough understanding of human nature and what people will try to get away with." He took voluntary redundancy in 2009. He describes this as his decision.
He has been married three times, an experience that has given Derek what Eleutheria's editors describe as "a uniquely rounded perspective on the complexities of human relationships." Derek has two children, Jason and Kayleigh, with whom he maintains a relationship he describes as "perfectly fine."
Derek joined Eleutheria's advice desk in 2023, bringing with him what the Editor describes as "a refreshingly direct approach to problem solving in an age of unnecessary complication." His column, Man Up, has attracted a devoted readership who appreciate what Derek calls "straight talking" and what his editors prefer to describe as "robust practical guidance delivered with conviction."
Derek drives a Jaguar. He lives in Wolverhampton. He is, in his own assessment, absolutely fine.
